About
Vivarium
Vivarium is a web application for long-form AI narrative roleplay and world simulation. You play a character inside a living world, spend time as you choose, and the world keeps up.
The guiding principle is simple. The AI is responsible for expression: prose, dialogue, tone and voice. The application is responsible for reality: who is where, what they own, what they know, what a check resolves to, and what changed as a result. Nothing the model writes becomes true until the application has checked it against the rules.
This site is the project's public face and devblog. It is a static site with no accounts and no tracking beyond basic traffic counts. The application itself lives elsewhere.
About the developer
Hi, I'm Jeffrey M. Torres. By day I work in a Chief Data and Artificial Intelligence Office, on enterprise data integration, backend systems and automated workflows. I have led development teams and built applications in Python, Java and large cloud environments, so my working life is built on structure and data logic.
My real passion is AI-driven text roleplay, and I play it the way other people play long campaigns: with characters and places you come to care about. Today's AI can write a great scene. What it cannot do is keep a world honest across a hundred of them. Characters forget what they know, places quietly reset, and outcomes bend toward whoever asks most nicely. That is the problem I run into every time I sit down to play, and Vivarium is how I am solving it.
This devblog follows the road to launch: the design decisions, the engineering behind a world that holds together, and the work of putting the finished game in your hands.
Welcome to the journey.
